Fareena is a former molecular geneticist who helped develop the H1N1 vaccine at Serum Institute of India and researched brain cancer suppressors at University of Alberta. She left the lab in 2011 to explore opportunities in the telecommunications and sports industries, ultimately leading to an MBA at the University of Toronto. There, focusing on Design Thinking and Strategy, she found her calling in business innovation. Over the last 3 years at Walmart, she built a grassroots innovation organization which has disrupted the status quo and effected change across functions, levels, and countries.
Today, she also leads tech implementation for Walmart Canada and is responsible for the fast and efficient delivery of large scale projects such as online grocery, ML forecasting in logistics, next generation Wi-Fi, in-store applications and many more. When she’s not working, you can probably find her backpacking in another country or on a silent meditation retreat.
