Happy International Women’s Day!

Happy International Women’s Day!

International Women’s Day gives us the opportunity to celebrate the women of our illustrious community! These women are passionate, hard working and above all else, brave. It’s so important for us to understand their inspirational business journeys in this fast-paced industry! Therefore, with that in mind, we’re showcasing 6 lovely ladies from the world of retail who are sharing their thoughts on this very important day.

Iyia: “I love being a female entrepreneur. I love building businesses, running businesses and growing businesses. It is my passion to create things and then improve, improve and improve. It’s so fun for me. What are my hopes for the future? I don’t really plan that far ahead. At the moment, I’m just enjoying working with my team of girls. Our work place is filled with laughter each and every day, and I guess whatever happens in the future happens.”

Agata: “My passion for digital always revolved around numbers and the satisfaction associated with finding insights within the data. I apply my typically Polish detail-orientated thinking to all aspects of work and, as a result, run a business where process and practicality are at the forefront.”

Agata Ziemianska, NZDMI

Hannah: “I’m a digital & retail junkie. I live for building amazing customer experiences in the new retail landscape. I’ve spent the last 5 years in the US working for various retailers and start-ups & excited to be back and building Issue Clothing Company in New Zealand. As a nation we punch above our weight in terms of design and quality production, but I believe there is way more that we can be doing to build our niche industries. I’m passionate about supporting New Zealand innovation and that’s reflected in every decision we make with regards to the production of our product.”

Lucy: “Being able to pave my own direction in life and getting to work alongside a team that shares my passion is one of the greatest things about running a business. I’m driven to grow Hunting for George not just for the business but for the positive team culture and creativity that thrives within it. Our team is what inspires me to be a better leader, worker and thinker.”

Jane: “When women come together, incredible things can happen. At birdsnest we are so thrilled to be working with Taryn Brumfit, the creator of the Body Image Movement and Embrace Documentary which encourages women and girls to love and embrace their bodies. The fashion industry is part of the problem in creating unrealistic standards that we, as women, feel we need to live up to – so birdsnest is looking in the mirror and saying no to photo-shopping, introducing more body diversity and helping to raise money for educational outreach programs. Wouldn’t it be great if the next generation of girls spent less time at war with their bodies and more time embracing life.”

Special thanks to Online Retailer for supporting the Body Image Movement and donating funds to this cause as part of my involvement with Online Retailer NZ.”

Paula: “Currently the GM, eCommerce at General Pants Co for the past 2 years,  I have been fortunate enough to work with a number of great Australian retailers for more than 20 years. General Pants Co is one of the largest and most respected youth retailers in Australia, and is at the centre of digital innovation amongst millennial’s. I am lucky enough to lead a passionate team who strive to continually challenge the norm across the digital and ecommerce landscape. It’s the collaborative nature of this team that keeps us striving for success and is a great environment to work in as a senior leader.”
