The Party People launched online in 1999 as the first online party store in Australia with the idea that people could have access to our great range from anywhere at any time. We launched at that time with click and collect and we continued to innovate by offering flat rate shipping, being an incubated client with Facebook, and we managed to be first customer in Australia on Google and Bing Ads. We achieved this and continue to pioneer online by being agile.

In 2007 when my brother and I took over the family business and its 2 employees, we had big plans to grow. The problem we had was that we had no money to do it. So we had to be resourceful. I found a way to scale our marketing for no cost such that we received triple digit growth with a concept that we called internally as “The Uncapped Marketing Budget” and this concept is still relevant today.

As we grew we were confronted with many capacity and cash flow issues and we managed to resolve these by many conventional strategies and some non-conventional ones. We were able to fund part of our growth through government grants and the crazy thing was that most businesses have the ability to get some form of government funding and don’t even realise. For us this funding was in the hundreds of thousands so we wish we knew about them sooner and so will you.

More recently we have fuelled our growth through influencer marketing and good PR which has led to great SEO that continues to see us at the top of google rankings. We have also managed to cut costs with great digital changes such as the sharing economy in many obvious ways and some not so obvious ones.

In my speaking session at Online Retailer 2017 I will share the 7 hacks I have discovered along my journey and how I apply them today. This includes how to be agile, how to get around government grant criteria without much effort, how to have an unlimited marketing budget, using the sharing economy to cut costs, PR tricks and influencer marketing strategies, and raising my brand profile by becoming an influencer. All of these strategies I implemented at little or no cost and so my session will provide practical ideas for small to medium business looking to grow.

I really love helping other small to medium businesses so please come along as I will be making it my mission to ensure everyone leaves with more than one great idea that will save them thousands, so drinks will be on you guys all night!

See you at Online Retailer 2017!
